This is my WIP entry for Renderman's Magic Shop Art Challenge.
My story idea is that the shop - Elvira's Flora and Fauna - is both a nursery for plants as well as nursery for Familiars for Witches. (Familiars being the small animal or supernatural creatures that aid witches in their magic.) In the world I'm creating, the familiars take the form of little plant creatures. The Young Witch has just purchased and is taking her very first Familiar home.
THe wood frames and door were textured in Substance Painter.
For the wall - I created a stacked rock wall material in substance designer and then brought that into substance painter where I blended between a stucco/adobe that i made.
This is a paint-over I did as a bit of a color study trying to figure out the direction I want to go. I thought adding some foreground might be nice to give the scene depth. Not sure about the pose of the character yet. Right now it's just a simple her walking out of the shop holding her familiar. But I may try later to get a bit more emotion out of it, or a happier, excited to get my first pet, kind of feel. I'm excited with the idea of hiding a bunch of the little plant creatures all over the scene. Black and white is just to check the values of the scene.
I've also included some of the reference I've collected for the style of wall I'm going for, the lava rocks for the planter. and the breezewall textures.
Here I did a first pass on the breezewall, lava rock, and planter box. The succulents are just procedural shaders right now, no texturing work has been done yet. The lava rock was done procedurally.
